As conflicts, crises and economic worries become commonplace, poetry with the power to startle us into clarity is more necessary than ever. The work of a poet with the capacity to peer through the hypnotic busyness of everyday life and bring a fresh perspective to customary ways of seeing is a vital antidote to the sound bites, tabloid news and political correctness that swirls about us like a fog.
For our 2009 contest, we look forward to what entrants will bring us by way of captivating work with the ability to inspire, uplift and challenge our customary ways of processing the elegant complexities of everyday life.
Patricia Wellingham-Jones, Ph.D. and Ellaraine Lockie will serve as judges for our 2009 Poetry Prize. Ms. Wellingham-Jones and Ms. Lockie are accomplished writers and poets whose artistic sensibilities have been honed by years of writing, publishing and teaching. Both have been nominated for Pushcart Prizes and Ms. Lockie was a Finalist for the 2007 Creekwalker Poetry Prize.
Welcome to the 2009 Creekwalker Poetry Prize.
